Water Heater Service in Atlanta, GA
We provide water heater services in Atlanta, GA, helping homeowners maintain reliable hot water with fast, efficient, and professional solutions.
Signs Your Water Heater Needs Attention
Catching a failing unit early prevents water damage and keeps repair costs down. Watch for these symptoms:
No hot water or inconsistent temperature. Hot water runs out quickly or the shower turns cold mid-use. The heating element or burner may be failing.
Rusty or discolored water. Reddish or murky water from hot taps often points to internal tank corrosion.
Popping or rumbling sounds. Sediment builds up at the bottom of storage tanks over time and causes banging during heating cycles.
Standing water near the unit. A small puddle around the base or connections needs attention right away to prevent structural water damage.
Energy bills climbing month over month. A unit working harder than it should drives up gas or electric costs without producing more hot water.
Age past 10 to 12 years. Most tank water heaters last 8 to 12 years. Repeated repairs on an aging unit often cost more than a replacement over time.
Call (678) 439-9540 if you notice any of these. Our licensed plumbers diagnose the problem and give you a clear repair-versus-replacement recommendation before any work starts.
Water Heater Services We Provide
Water Heater Installation
Whether your current unit failed or you are upgrading to a more efficient model, Plumbing Express manages the full installation. We size the unit to your household’s actual demand, confirm your gas line and venting meet code requirements, and pull all required permits.
We install both tank water heaters and Rinnai tankless water heaters. Tank units store 40 to 80 gallons and fit most Atlanta-area homes well. Tankless units heat water on demand and typically reduce standby energy losses by 24 to 34 percent compared to conventional storage tanks, per the U.S. Department of Energy. Our plumbers walk you through both options and help you choose what fits your home and budget.
For pricing, contact our team for an exact quote. Costs depend on unit type, your existing gas line and venting condition, and any code upgrades your home needs.
View our full range of options on the Water Heater Services page, including dedicated pages for Rinnai Tankless Water Heaters and Tank Water Heaters.
Water Heater Repair & Maintenance
Not every problem calls for a full replacement. Our plumbers diagnose and fix:
- Failing heating elements and thermostats on tank units
- Pressure relief valve failures
- Corroded or depleted anode rods
- Leaking connections, fittings, and supply lines
- Tankless unit error codes, ignition failures, and inconsistent hot water output
- Sediment-related pressure and temperature problems
Annual maintenance keeps your unit running efficiently and adds years to its service life. A tune-up covers flushing sediment from the tank, testing the pressure relief valve, inspecting the anode rod, and checking all connections for early signs of corrosion. Skipping maintenance lets small problems grow into expensive failures.

Tank vs. Tankless: Which Water Heater Fits Your Home?
Both types perform well in Metro Atlanta homes. The right choice depends on your household size, daily hot water demand, and long-term plans.
Tank water heaters
cost less to install and suit most homes with moderate daily use. The trade-off is standby heat loss: the unit uses energy keeping stored water warm around the clock, even when no one is home.
Tankless water heaters
heat water only when you need it. They cost more upfront, especially when gas line upgrades or new venting are part of the job. The energy savings typically recover that extra cost over five to eight years. A properly installed Rinnai tankless unit lasts 20 years or more with routine service.
Our plumbers assess your current gas line, venting setup, and water use before recommending a unit. Contact our team for an exact quote based on your home.

Service couldn’t be completed due to needing a new system. We appreciate the very informative visit as well as insight that could help after a new unit install.
Plumbing Express was great. I had a failed sump pump that had partially overflowed into the basement. Nasty. Josh was the tech that did the work. He was efficient, neat and courteous. I will use Plumbing Express if I have any other plumbing needs and I will recommend them to my family and friends.
The technician was very knowledgeable and professional. I believe they did a very good job.
Ron was our second plumber from this company. The first plumber came, examined pipes and said he found no leak, even though we had experiences a large amount of water leaking from the ceiling in the finished basement. Several days later we had another leak-same area but less water the second time. Ron came in, listened to our frustration and did a more thorough inspection of the pipes and identified the problem. He was very personable and professional. On his third visit, we had several replacement pipes installed and are without leaks again. Our frustration, with the situation, was my son had used your company to replace pipes when he purchased the home and founding out not all the pipes were included with that process.
Tim arrived on time and was very professional. He took his time to explain the problem and the process it would take fix the water line.
Called Plumbing Express as tankless hot water not operating. Their website states "Get Free Plumbing Quote ". When service man showed up an looked at unit he said there would be a $207 charge to look into unit in order to give me a quote to fix unit. Due to not having hot water and time required to get another company to address the problem I agreed to pay $207 for quote. After looking in unit I was told he would not be able to fix due to age of unit and parts not available. I think he should have said parts not available when seeing model number on front of unit and I would not have wasted $207.
Outstanding customer service, we will definitely be using them in the future for any plumbing needs. Can’t thank them enough!
Extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. The team was excellent. The job was completed in 1 day with a great team. Very expressive.
Daniel Perez was great in coming out to check the problem I had with a water leak from my air conditioner line. His recommendation was correct.
Great and informative service while I was in a bind without a functioning water heater.
Plumbing Express is my go-to plumbing support team. They have fair pricing, well-vetted technicians, and a truly exceptional scheduling system. Rod, my technician, was the best. He quickly assessed the problem and gave a fair estimate, working hard to keep to the schedule. He even brought Josh along on the day of service, and the two of them worked well together. They addressed the bathtub drain repair with expertise and caused the least sheetrock damage. It was difficult to replace the broken pipe and get to the upstairs drain, but together they made it a success.
Daniel did a great job and was very professional during his service call last week!
Rod and Josh did an awesome job taking care of my clogged sinks. Knowledgable, professional and great to work with - I really appreciated their help today and would highly recommend them and Plumbing Express!
Daniel was excellent. The work he did was simply superb. I highly recommend your company and hopefully Daniel will get more and more work
Dylan from Plumbing Express came over and replaced our garbage disposal for us. It was older, had a massive leak, and needed to be replaced. He did a great job and was in and out in about 30 minutes! I also asked him to check out a potential leak I had been hearing in my ceiling. He used a thermal camera to investigate and was very honest and upfront about what he found. Rather than immediately cutting into the drywall to confirm something uncertain, he explained that the sound could simply be pipes expanding and that opening the wall might be unnecessary. He recommended monitoring the area and waiting to see if a wet spot appears, which would clearly indicate an actual leak. I really appreciated that he didn’t try to upsell or push unnecessary work. Overall, great service and a great guy. They will definitely be our go-to plumbing service from now on.
Once again we had some problems under our kitchen sink so we called Plumbing Express who were able to get us on their schedule pretty quickly after these storms Tim Robinson came out to do the job. Tim has been to our house for a number of different plumbing problems. He is personable & professional. As usual he did a great job even though this particular problem turned out to be far more difficult than anyone had expected. As frustrating as it was, Tim worked through it until he finished the job. We can't thank him enough.
Anthony was very competent, professional and friendly. He answered all my questions throughly. Highly recommend!
Frequently Asked Questions
What are polybutylene pipes and why should I replace them?
Polybutylene is a gray plastic pipe material installed in many Atlanta-area homes built between 1978 and 1995. It breaks down over time and can fail without warning, causing leaks and water damage. Many insurance carriers now limit or decline coverage for homes with polybutylene still in place. Our polybutylene replacement page covers what to expect and how our turn-key process works.
What are the signs I need a repipe?
Low water pressure throughout the house, discolored water, multiple leaks in a short period, and pipes that are 30 or more years old are the most common indicators. If a water heater replacement reveals corroded supply lines, a full repipe may be worth discussing at the same visit. See our home repiping services page to learn more.
What material is used for replacement?
Plumbing Express uses PEX-A and CPVC pipe for repiping projects. Both resist corrosion, meet Georgia plumbing code, and carry long-term manufacturer warranties. For water heater supply connections, we use code-compliant braided stainless or copper lines rated for the application.
How long does a whole-house repipe take?
Most whole-house repipes in Metro Atlanta finish in two to three days. Our process is turn-key: we complete all plumbing work, repair any drywall we open, and match the paint before we leave. Visit our repipe process page for a full step-by-step breakdown, and our preparing your home page to know what to do before the crew arrives.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Plumbing Express is a licensed and insured plumbing contractor in Georgia. All work is code-compliant and permitted where required. Every technician is also a background-checked W-2 employee.
